Overview
Why PE-RT Type I Is the Global Standard for Floor Heating
PE-RT Type I pipe has become the dominant material for underfloor heating and domestic hot water plumbing worldwide. Unlike PEX (cross-linked polyethylene), PE-RT Type I does not require cross-linking during manufacturing, which makes it more flexible, easier to install, and fully recyclable. Produced from LG Chem SP980 virgin resin using advanced extrusion technology, our PE-RT Type I pipe delivers excellent thermal conductivity (0.4 W/m·K) for efficient heat transfer, handles continuous temperatures up to 70°C (95°C peak), and provides 50+ years of maintenance-free service in closed-loop heating systems.
◆ Exceptional Flexibility — Fewer Fittings, Faster Install. PE-RT Type I is the most flexible pipe in the PE-RT family, specifically engineered for underfloor heating where tight-radius loops and serpentine patterns are standard. The pipe bends naturally around corners without kinking, reducing the number of fittings and potential leak points. In cold weather installations, Type I retains superior handling characteristics compared to PEX and PE-RT Type II.
◆ Hot-Melt Weldable — The PEX Advantage Killer. Unlike PEX, PE-RT Type I is thermoplastic — it can be joined via socket fusion hot-melt welding, creating permanent, leak-proof connections as strong as the pipe itself. No expensive compression fittings, no mechanical joints that loosen over time. For closed-loop heating systems, hot-melt welded PE-RT Type I pipe eliminates the #1 failure mode: fitting leaks under the floor.
◆ EVOH Oxygen Barrier — Protect Your Boiler Investment. For closed-loop heating systems, we offer 3-layer and 5-layer PE-RT Type I pipe with an integrated EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol) oxygen barrier. This barrier prevents oxygen diffusion through the pipe wall, protecting metal boiler components, pumps, and radiators from internal corrosion. A compulsory requirement in most European heating standards.
◆ 0.4 W/(m·K) — Efficient Heat Transfer. PE-RT Type I pipe has higher thermal conductivity than both PEX and standard PE, meaning heat transfers faster from the hot water through the pipe wall into the floor screed. This translates to quicker room warm-up times, lower water temperature requirements, and reduced energy consumption — measurable efficiency gains that compound over decades.
◆ Food-Grade — Safe for Drinking Water. Manufactured from lead-free, food-grade virgin LG Chem resin, PE-RT Type I pipe is certified safe for potable hot and cold water. The smooth inner wall resists biofilm adhesion, prevents scale buildup, and maintains water quality without tainting taste, odor, or safety — recyclable at end of life with zero hazardous waste.

Application Scenarios

Residential & Commercial Underfloor Heating. PE-RT Type I pipe is the global standard for radiant floor heating in homes, apartments, offices, and hotels. Loop patterns up to 120m per circuit. Exceptional flexibility makes serpentine and spiral layouts fast to install with minimal fittings.

Domestic Hot & Cold Water Plumbing. Food-grade PE-RT Type I pipe for residential hot and cold water distribution. Hot-melt welded joints create monolithic, leak-proof connections. Smooth inner wall prevents scale buildup and biofilm, maintaining water quality for decades.

Solar Thermal & Heat Pump Systems. PE-RT Type I pipe handles the moderate-temperature outputs of solar water heaters and ground-source heat pumps. 0.4 W/(m·K) thermal conductivity maximizes heat transfer efficiency from collector to storage tank.

Radiator Connection & Building Heating. Neat, flexible PE-RT Type I pipe for connecting wall-mounted radiators in residential and commercial buildings. Hot-melt weldable joints eliminate leak-prone mechanical fittings, especially valuable in finished interiors where access is limited.
